… it is important to know the term I use to identify myself. I identify as mestizo, which is a person with a mixed ancestry of white Europeans and an indigenous people group. My ancestry consists of 75% white European and 25% indigenous Mexican.
We were living in Columbia, Missouri when Michael Brown was shot in Ferguson, Missouri. Following his death, I saw firsthand the outrage and mourning of the black community, but I also witnessed plenty of denial and apathy from white evangelicals. I am not stating that all white evangelicals responded poorly, but it was frequent enough to create a division in the Church.
